Improving Exterior Lighting in Hillsdale

Can you envision attractive lighting transforming Hillsdale? We have a $10K grant that we’re thinking to spend on district-wide lighting improvements. But, it’s going to take a few more minds to see this project thru.

Activities:

Assisting in the creation of guidelines/projects list that will be included in the storefront improvement program. Completion date goal of Dec.31^st 2012.
Assisting in the creation of Hillsdale’s lighting guidelines to be included in the Hillsdale appendix of the Portland Main Street District Design Handbook. Due by the end of June 2013.
Project must be completed before the end of June 2013 to meet grant requirements.
3-5 hours total of volunteer time per month during project duration.

Capitol Highway Landscaping Project

The Hillsdale Main Street Design Committee is excited to announce the installation of their first project – landscaping strips along Capitol Highway! Long planting strips were added to the street-side of the sidewalks surrounding most current street trees. These planting strips were filled with water-resistant, but aesthetically pleasing plants. The purpose of the project is to increase the look and feel of the streetscape, hopefully catching the attention of the 30,000 vehicles that travel through the district daily and making them realize they have arrived someplace. It will also improve the pedestrian experience. We would like to thank all volunteers who both helped plan the project, as well as help on planting day. A special thanks goes to Dan Jenkins with Group Mackenzie, without whome none of the planning and permit process would have been completed. Below, please find some preliminary sketches of the project, along with some pictures of the finished product:

The Hillsdale Main Street Design Committee has been working hard to create a master plan that identifies focus areas and projects they would like to work on for the next 1-10 years. Projects include physical changes we would like to help create in the Hillsdale business district. We are currently requesting feedback on the plan, asking the Hillsdale community to let us know:

Have we identified any projects you do NOT feel should occur in Hillsdale?
Have we missed any key projects?
Have we prioritized projects appropriately?
Do you have any further comments regarding the plan?
